Connecting to the Light Within: Yin & Yoga Nidra for the Solstice is a special class collaboration with Felicia Comisar and Kate Howell to honor the Winter Solstice and the end of the darkest days by connecting with our inner light.

According to yoga philosophy, although we inhabit a physical body and perceive the world through the workings of the mind, our true nature or essence is light. While the body and the mind are nature (prakriti) and changing all the time, our essence is timeless and unchanging.

Most of the time, we identify with our bodies and our minds which causes a great deal of suffering.

But yoga practices move us towards deeper understanding of ourselves, away from identification with the body and the mind, and towards an awareness of ourselves as something constant, timeless, vast and unchanging.

Connecting to the Light Within is a 90 minute practice that combines gentle dynamic movement, long sustained Yin postures (asana), yogic breathwork (pranayama) and an extended resting posture (savasana) with a complete guided Yoga Nidra meditation. The practice is designed to move your awareness from the physical body to subtler aspects of being.

The physical practice includes gentle dynamic movement and long sustained Yin postures coordinated with breath to release tension in the physical body, soothe the nervous system and focus the mind in preparation for stillness.

The physical practice is followed by an extended savasana, or resting position, with complete Yoga Nidra meditation. Yoga Nidra, literally yogic sleep, is designed to dissolve held pockets of stress, and invites profound relaxation while opening the door to deeper layers of consciousness– deep rest, dream state, and beyond.

Yoga Nidra meditation will include:
